Known for its associations with Luxury, Richness, Exotic, and Warmth, Kiaat wood, also referred to as Mukwa, Pterocarpus angolensis, or African Teak, is a hardwood native to Southern Africa. Indigenous communities in regions like Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique have revered this wood for centuries, using it in diverse applications such as constructing homes, crafting tools, and creating intricate decorative carvings.
Kiaat wood is celebrated for its striking rich, warm reddish-brown color, ranging from deep burgundy to golden brown. Its medium to coarse texture and straight, interlocked grain give it a distinctive appearance that exudes character and sophistication.
Renowned for its durability and resistance to decay and insect damage, Kiaat wood excels in outdoor applications like decking and fencing. However, its hardness can pose challenges during cutting and shaping, a testament to its strength.
Kiaat trees are slow-growers, reaching towering heights of up to 40 meters, and play a pivotal role in supporting biodiversity in forest ecosystems. Their contribution to habitat preservation and forest health underscores the ecological significance of this remarkable wood.
Over time, Kiaat wood matures gracefully, developing a warm and charming patina that complements your sacred space, infusing it with a sense of tradition, resilience, and warmth.

About Wood Variations
Our products are crafted from 100% natural solid wood, each bearing its own unique character, grain pattern, and lustre. While some woods like Beech exhibit relative uniformity, others like Red Cedar can showcase striking differences from one cabinet to another.
Because each Bible cabinet is so unique, we find that a great majority of our clients like to personally pick out one that resonates with them.
Of course we are also happy to choose one for you, just leave the Variant ID box blank, or type in “Choose For Me” – we’ll take it from there.
But, if you’d like to choose…. Here’s How It Works:
1. See The Collection: If you have not already, browse our in stock collection here: View Available Cabinets.
2. Let Us Know: Once you have found a cabinet that you love in the gallery, place the image name (or “Variant ID”) in the space provided.
We recommend choosing 2 or 3, just in case.
3. Place Your Order: It’s that simple! To streamline this process, if you have not provided a Variant ID, we will choose one for you. If you change your mind or need assistance, please let us know within 48 hours at info@carpenter-shack.com.
